Summer Happenings

We have some fun outings coming up this summer. Here’s a sample.

We’ll visit a farm in Manor where an artist and weaver spins the wool of her eight llamas. If it’s not too hot, we’ll take the llamas for a walk.

In Round Rock, we’ll visit with a weaver who has lots of looms that campers will get to use. She will also give each camper a cardboard loom, show them how to work on it, and let them take it home.

In Austin, we will visit with a musician and actor and her collection of didgeridoos, and she will show you how to play them.

In addition to being out and about, we will be doing lots of fun things at the house this summer, like make paper, communicate by walkie-talkie, cook and bake (and eat!), play with our parachute, “soak” in the bathtub boat full of beans and lots more. And, of course, there will be lots of Spanish for your kiddo to soak up.

The kids had a great time the first week of camp! One of our outings this week was to the turtle pond at UT and the Texas Union Underground. We also went to the State Capitol and the Butler Park splash pad. Spots are still available, so contact me, Megan Baker, for more information.

“Both Madi and Nick voluntarily shared with me, several different times during the week, that they really like this camp. I love that Megan took the time to want to get to know the children and their interests. When I picked the children up at the end of the day, they were always in great spirits.”

“The kids are loving exploring the city and all it has to offer. Thank you, Megan! I also appreciate you keeping the fees reasonable. That means a lot when you have more than one child. We definitely plan on coming back next summer.”

A Cautionary “Tail”

Three mice were living in a house when a big cat moved in. One day, one of the mice was scavenging for food when the cat came up behind her. “MEOWW!” the cat bellowed. Terrified, the mouse let out a timid “Squeak!” before being gobbled up.

The next day, another of the mice was looking for food when the cat snuck up behind him. “MEOWW!” the cat roared. Totally panicked, the mouse croaked out a “Squeak!” before becoming the cat’s lunch.

On the third day, the last mouse was on the prowl for food when the cat crept up to him and thundered “MEOWW!” Calmly, the mouse turned to face the cat, mustered up all her energy, and let loose with an impressive “BOW WOW WOW!” At this, the cat turned tail and swiftly fled, whimpering and crying.

And there you have it–the importance of being bilingual!
